Animal Ark A Sancuary for Life
Bobcat

Animal Picture Piper

Common Name: Bobcat
Scientific Name: Lynx rufus
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 2003
History: Piper arrived at the Animal Ark on January 17, 2006 following a health check from a local veterinarian. After an unsuccessful breeding program, her former owner decided it was time to find her a new home. Piper was originally purchased from a breeder in Montana. All too often animals like this bobcat are sold as pets. Wild animals do not make good pets. They also require special care and housing. Piper’s former owner became aware of these challenges after caring for several bobcats in his possession. He sought to find she and Whiston a new home at which time Animal Ark was contacted.

Animal Picture Whiston

Common Name: Bobcat
Scientific Name: Lynx rufus
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 2003
History: Whiston arrived at Animal Ark on January 17, 2006 after being neutered and receiving a health check from a local veterinarian. Following his surgery, he could safely be housed with Piper, a female from the same location without the concern that producing offspring might be the result. Whiston originally came from a zoo that offered him for sale to a private individual. Like all wild animals, bobcats do not make good pets. A failed breeding program along with the challenges of specialized care and housing influenced his owner to find new homes for his bobcats. At that time the Ark was contacted.

Animal Picture Micah

Common Name: Bobcat
Scientific Name: Lynx rufus
Gender: Male
Birth Date: July 9, 1995
History: Micah arrived at the Ark on July 31, 2000. He was originally born in captivity and sold as a pet. Apparently there was some mishandling of this wild animal relating to aggressive discipline. After some serious encounters with his owner, the cat was returned to the breeder. Later another home was found but this location did not work out well either as Micah does not feel comfortable around men. Animal Ark was then contacted for placement. Micah still looks toward humans for the care that he needs. He seems happy in his new environment and enjoys the many women animal keepers who work at the Ark.
